Sorry for my reasonable absence from the blogosphere in recent days; work got a little busy and there was much to do at home in the evening to get around to doing a proper update. Not that I have very much to tell, but that’s how it goes.
Anyway, greetings from a rainy Dublin; Ciara, having finished her job yesterday, is off to Kilkenny to recharge her batteries for a couple of days so in the meantime you’ll have to make do with me, probably posting off-kilter links about whatever I think might make me look cool.
Let’s see, what’s been happening? Well, on Monday, the University Presidents decided they’d get together and cut some courses because of funding cutbacks. Hmm. My answer to them is this: if the management of the country’s main hospitals all got together and said they’d cut certain services because they couldn’t afford to, there would be uproar. Why the University Presidents are considered any different, I’m not really sure.
Since then? Well, I’ve been wasting away, pretty much, compiling a 3600-row spreadsheet at work. I can’t begin to tell you just how enthralling it is.
Anyway, until I think of more to write, some links from the last week to keep y’all amused:
- The Sun gets caught in probably the worst Photoshopping disaster ever
- A new US service called Slydial offers to dial to your recipient’s voicemail so that you can give them bad news without actually having to speak to them. Hmm, poor Americans - over here we can just dial 5…
- A nifty dodecahedral calendar for your desk. (Actually, come to think of it, that killed most of my Monday…)
- A rather unorthadox outdoor toilet solution (NSFW)
- The Valley News makes the mother of all typos
- Creative Ireland’s Déanta In Éirinn thread - glorious
- Steve Fossett may have faked his own death?
- How to perform colonic irrigation on a cat (not quite NSFW but I wouldn’t risk it!)
- Gizmodo produce an excellent illustrated guide to every cable you’ll ever need
- Milk-crate furniture
- How Steven Spielberg priced himself into unemployment
I’ll leave the best ’til last: Rick was Twittering earlier in the week about how RTE firewalled off anything decent on the interweb. Well, step forward WebToMail, which will email you a copy of any webpage you want, and help get you around any such issues. Simply email WebToMail at send@webtomail.co.cc with the URL of the page you want in the subject line, and they’ll email you back a copy of the webpage. Nifty one.
