Good news for those already bogged down in FE1 hell. I just received this email from the Law Society regarding the Irish Exam that must be passed prior to your apprenticeship…
The Legal Practitioners (Irish Language) Bill 2007 has now been enacted. It is therefore no longer necessary to pass the First Irish Examination before lodging an application for consent to enter into indentures of apprenticeship.
The First Irish Examination scheduled for 22 and 23 July 2008 has been cancelled. Candidates who had applied to sit this examination will receive a refund of their fee within six weeks.
I had no problem with it myself, but I know it’ll be a big relief to most of you to know that’s 1/9 dealt with! So just 24 hours of exams left for me then… graaaaaaaaaand
(If it’s enacted, though… isn’t it an Act, not a Bill? Someone get Mary Mc on the phone pronto!…)

I just had a look at the Acts section of the Oireachtas website and there’s no such thing as the “Legal Practitioners (Irish Language) Act 2007″.
How the hell is something enacted without being passed?!

It’s on the website… http://www.lawsociety.ie/displayCDAContent.aspx?groupID=149&headerID=11089&code=latest_news
If you can’t trust the law who can you trust?

Btw, change applies for King’s Inns students too.
An option will remain to sit Gaeilge classes at professional level during training
but it will no longer be a requirement. If you so choose, you can sit the exam and be part of a register of those proficient in representing people as Gaeilge.
